Early In The Morning

Genuineness, pureness, and love are the three words that came to mind when reading this poem. While I was reading, I just picture the married couple just making non-verbal expressions of how they cared for each other while she's combing her hair and her husband is just looking at her. I wonder if He does this as an every day routine since she's been doing it for "half of a hundred years." This poem in some sort of way is really peaceful as well because of its description of their surrounding. Personally, those are the three things I would want to feel towards my future spouse; genuineness, pureness, and love.

The Christmas Wife

Tanner,

You've lost the love of your life three years ago,
this is another Christmas without her here with you.
It has been three years ago since you were left with
the emptiness inside you,

Looking desperately for someone to be side to side
on a Christmas night.
Buying that "agreeable" companionship probably
trying to aim for a relationship.

But after Christmas,
what are you going to do?
How will you fill that void that
your wife left you?
How are you going to
see things through when you realize
that after Christmas the only one with
next to you is just You.

I pray peace, love and patience
over you.
That when things seem unclear
God will lead you right through.
No matter what He's the real one
Standing right beside you
every day and every night.
Merry Christmas.

The Woman on the Thirteenth Floor

I had the opportunity to read this short story in class and I feel that many of us would put ourselves in her place. As I was reading this story, I was picturing the situation in my head. Hanging from the 13th floor, ironically because there aren't any 13th floors in any building due to "bad luck". Loneliness, having no one there to help her out in what she was dealing with, was one of many factors that brought this woman to that 13th floor. The sense of hopelessness has brought her to suicidal ideation. The most shocking part of the story for me was when people were shouting to jump down. I believe that in that moment, her decision was life or death. I would put myself in that place where I've had to hold on to God's hand in order to withstand the circumstances in life and recovering myself and my identity and go forth. There will always be a crowd who would just want you to jump down and give up but we have to think that in the midst of the storm we can still find peace and joy through Christ who is our daily strength.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

Reading the story of Benjamin Button had me analyzing about the world today, and how our minds think about the elderly people now-a-days. I believe this is the first time that I have read a story about someone being born old and dying young. It had me thinking and I would imagine that Benjamin would have feel isolated and rejected by society just like many people do that in today’s world towards elderly people. While reading the story I was saying to myself, “Wow, one day I am going to be an elder in a matter of years.” Also, about how much these people have done something for us in any kind of way. For example, serving World War I and II. At one point, many of them put their lives on the line for us to be where we are at right now. I, personally love sitting down with elderly people and just hear their stories, it just amazes me at times. It is incredible how much wisdom these people have! One day I was having lunch at McDonalds with my roommates and this man of approximately 65 years of age came up to our table. He started showing us how he buys coins and start cutting them in half and making the coins do some crazy things. He said that was his hobby. Suddenly, he just started talking about what he did for a living, he did something with nuclear missiles  as a career in the military. So, he just started talking about what he did and I honestly felt dumb when he started talking about how to fire a missile and hit the exact spot that they wanted to hit. I felt like he was a math genius in some sort of way, he started talking about trigonometry and about the circumference of the earth, and then do pie (3.14), then something else. I had to ask him to repeat it at least two more times after that because I was so lost! After listening to his stories, it made me realize that these people are not as dumb as we think they are just because they are old. I believe that we are born as a baby and dying like a baby too if you get to that age because it has the same procedures; they need someone to bathe them, most of the time they need to use pampers, and be watched at all times. In conclusion, this story has made me appreciate elderly people more than I did before.
